Description:
Colistin (Polymyxin E) is a mixture of polypeptides bactericidal antibiotic, it
is strongly bound to bacteria and cause the release of cytoplasmic solutes by
increasin the permeability of the cell membrane, it also has an inhibitory
action on oxidative metabolism.
Colistin has a bactericidal activity, especially against gram negative bacteria,
mainly E.coli, Salmonella spp., Shigella spp., Klebsiella and Pseudomonas.
Indications:
Indicated for treatment of gram negative enteric infections in poultry,calves & lambs.
Dosage and administration:
Poultry: 2 gm of the finished product/ Lt drinking water for 3-5 days. Calves & Lambs:60 000 IU/kg b.w. for 3-5 days.
