(Equivalent to 140 mg Silymarin)

Standardized to contain 80% Silymarin

DOSAGE

–          Usual Adult Dose:

–          One Silimar tablet with a glass of water, 3 times daily with food. After improvement is noted (usually in eight to twelve weeks), intake may be reduced to one tablet twice daily. This lower dose may also be used for preventive purposes.

PROPERTIES

It is a unique formula designed specially to help liver functions. Protect against liver damage by exerting general supportive and promoting effects on the hepatic cells. It has direct protective effect on hepatic cells through membrane stabilizing effect, acceleration of regenerative capacity of damaged liver cells and protection against harmful and toxic agents.

Precautions and Warning:

-          A mild laxative effect may be encountered, due to increased bile secretion, in addition to occasional reports of stomach upset. Allergic reactions are possible. -          Milk thistle can cause an allergic reaction in individuals sensitive to the Asteraceae/Compositae family. -          There is insufficient reliable information available. Therefore, use of Silimar should be avoided during pregnancy and lactation. -          There is preliminary evidence that milk thistle can inhibit the P450 3A4 enzyme. Theoretically, this inhibition might lead to increased levels of drugs metabolized by this enzyme ( e.g. lovastatin, ketoconazole, fexofinadine ). Although this interaction has not been reported in humans, Silimar should be used cautiously or avoided in patients taking these drugs. -          Hypersensitivity to any of the components of milk thistle. -          It has been suggested that milk thistle may cause irritation of the gastric mucosa in patients with inflammatory or irritable bowel disorders. -          A physician should be consulted first before administering milk thistle to a child. -          In the event of any adverse reaction occurring, consult a doctor.
