Nifuroxazide 220 mg

COMPOSITION:
Each 5 ml contains: Nifuroxazide     220 mg/ 5 ml.

Exepients: Xanthan gum, Methyl paraben, Propyl paraben, Propylene glycol, Glycerin Sugar, Banana flavour.

PHARMACEUTICAL FORM: Suspension.

PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTION:

Nifuroxazide has a wide bactericidal activity against Gram positive and Gram negative enteropathogenic bacteria, e.g., staph. Strept., campylobacter, shigella, salmonella, E.coli and yersinia.

PHARMACOKINETIC:

Does not develop plasmid resistance and is effective against antibiotic resistant bacteria and non absorbable and locally acting without a systemic actions or side effects.

Does not disturb the equilibrium of the intestinal flora and more rapid clinical response on the intestinal bacterial infections, thus helping prevent dehydration.

INDICATIONS:
– Acute and chronic diarrhea.

– Gastroenteritis.

– Acute and chronic colitis.

– Intestinal antiseptic in all other types of diarrhea and intestinal infections.

– Traveler’s diarrhea.

CONTRAINDICATIONS:

Prematurity, birth period up to 1 month.

DOSAGE AND DIRECTIONS FOR USE:

Children: - Below 2 months: 1 teaspoonful (5 ml) twice daily.   - 2 months – 1 year: 1 teaspoonful (5 ml) 3 times daily.   - Over 1 year: 1 teaspoonful (5 ml) 4 times daily. N.B.: the dose can be increased according to the clinical response.

Not known.

PREGNANCY & LACTATION

Has an excellent tolerability and a wide safety margin. Therefore it can be prescribed safely during pregnancy and lactation.

PRECAUTION AND WARNING:

If symptoms of dehydration present, must give fluid therapy on the basis of clinical status and lost fluid volume.
