Dosage Form :Injection

Composition:
Each 1 ml Contains:
Gentamicin (as sulphate) 100 gm
Properties:
Opigent is a colourless solution contains gentamicin, which is a broad
spectrum antibiotic belonging to aminoglycosides, having a bactericidal effect.
It is active against gram negative organisms and some gram positive
organisms, it is particularly of valuable activity against Pseudomonas
aeruginosa.
Indications:
Dogs, Cats:
For urinary tract infections (Cystitis & nephritis), nephritis and soft tissue
infections (Pneumonia, tracheobronchitis) and soft tissue infections
(Pyodermatitis, wounds, abscesses, laceration and peritonitis).
Horses: Pneumonia, tracheobronchitis, cystitis, nephritis and soft tissue infections.
For treatment of uterine infections (Metritis) use by intrauterine infusion in
mares.

Ototoxicity, nephrotoxicity in high doses for a prolonged period.

Contraindication

Usage in pregnant animals must be carefully considered. Contemporary use of strong diuretics or potential nephrotoxic drugs is contraindicated.

Warning

Not to be used in animals producing meat, milk and eggs.

Dosage and administration:

Dog & Cat: 5 mg/ kg b.wt. (0.5 ml / 10 kg b.wt.). given I.M. or S.C. twice in the first day and once daily afterwards. Horse: 2-4 mg/kg b.wt. (2-4 ml/ 100 kg b.wt.) The recommended dose is given I.M. every 8- 12 hours. In mares: 5 ml. is diluted with 200- 500 ml. normal saline and given as intrauterine infusion.
